Etiler Practice Hotel
In this project, I tried to focus on articulating a design into a pre-existing urban texture. In this case, the triangular-shaped project land stands in the middle of three different urban textures and surrounded by main roads. So this land was almost like a traffic island for urban use. One side of the land is covered with modern apartments built in the ’80s, one side is the Nispetiye street which is one of the major branches of Büyükdere Street and the other side is mostly two storey high private residences (built-in 60’s) that refunctioned for commercial use. As a result, I came up with this introvert but permeable, linear design that surrounds a library space, covered with a massive green roof (which is not complete as a landscape) that connects different urban textures with creating an urban space for all.
Every function in this project connects with the landscape and allows them to act like a campus as a whole. Hotel and Vocational School are continuous masses because of educational purposes. The bazaar area is mixed with cafe-restaurant areas and these functions are aimed to articulate to Levent Bazaar as a continuation.
The Library area is designed as a public library and it connects to Vocational School with canteen space. It is a massive library space with natural lighting ideas inspired by other similar projects. In the middle of the library, there is a cone-shaped structure that is used as an angular light reflector, an entrance, an isolated study space and it connects to the library space with a bridge structure. This cone-shaped mass is inspired by Delft University Library.
